Where are Office 2007 Web Components?

A while ago I wrote an article about how to build fancy charts with Microsoft Office Web Components (OWC). Surprisingly, the article generated a lot of interest, and I still get emails with questions how to push the envelope even more. OWC were shipped with Office 2000 (OWC 9), 2003 (OWC 10) and XP (OWC 11). In terms of building static charts, the three didn’t differ from one another, but I got curious why I didn’t see them in Office 2007.

It turns out OWC are being discontinued, while the existing ones will be supported for some time. It’s a pity, but I do understand Microsoft’s need for something more powerful which the Excel Services promise to be.
