Prototype 1.4 Is Up For Grabs

I’m a little late to this party, but Prototype 1.4 is available for download from Sam’s site. If you poke around the source code, you’ll see some very helpful improvements. Documentation is still spread all over the Internet, but Sergio has updated his “unofficial reference guide” which is, perhaps, the most complete. Also, if you missed an earlier post about Prototype vs. Atlas, check it out.

A word of caution goes to those with Telerik server controls: you cannot include Prototype in any pages that have Telerik controls. Prototype extends the Array class with a handful of helpful methods, but Telerik scripts incorrectly reference Array properties and mess everything up. In the end, neither Prototype nor their controls work. They logged it as a bug, and we’ll see when a fix comes out. Bummer.

I would like to throw in a quick note here so that there's no confusion.

I think the steatement "Telerik scripts incorrectly reference Array properties and mess everything up. In the end, neither Prototype nor their controls work" is a bit untrue.

My first note is that only a few telerik products extend arrays and may cause problems. These are the dock, editor, upload and menu components. We have ran a few tests with other components and they work without glitches. If there is a problem in the interoperation of Prototype and the above-mentioned products, the reason is quite trivial - they have not been built with the idea to interoperate with one another and we need to work things out with the folks at Prototype.

We have eliminated the problem in r.a.d.upload and we have the willingness to overcome any compatibility issues in the rest of the controls. We have contacted the folks developing Prototype but so far we have not heard back. If any of you can help us reach the right person, we would be very grateful as we want ensure everything is working flawlessly as soon as possible.
