Making Pals With PayPal

After much deliberation I decided to sign up with PayPal to be able to accept donations. I’ve heard quite a lot of stories against PayPal which presented them in unfavorable light, but I decided to give them a try anyway.

Unfortunately, nothing is free. Hosting and time aren’t. I’ve been denying the urge to place Google ads or other advertisement here to absorb some of the cost of hosting, domain registration, etc. I know you, guys, see enough ads each and every day, and I don’t want to bombard you with more of them. Also, I don’t want to introduce a paid subscription, or charge any money for that matter. Therefore everything on this site remains free.

I put long ours into doing research and writing code I can share with all of you. In my research I focus on practical issues. For example, every idea I share in my articles I used in our product at work.

As to hosting, I’ve picked a decent hosting package with CrystalTech. I see lucrative, cheaper hosting packages now and then, but at closer inspection most of them have a gotcha—more often that not it translates into less responsive tech support or suboptimal uptime guarantees. I don’t want to compromise quality.

Anyway, if anyone can point out what to watch out for with PayPal, please speak up. Also, if you choose to make a donation and have trouble with my setup, please let me know.

Thank you!
