New Font On the Block

Now that Microsoft made the Consolas Font Pack available for download (hat tip to Miha), I wonder if we’ll be seeing more of this on the web:

body {
   font-family: Consolas, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
}

As to everyday use, Consolas is the best typeface for Visual Studio I’ve ever had.

Damn, can't use it on my developer machine where I'm based at the moment as we don't have Visual Studio 2005. Although, I do quite like Monaco with anti-aliasing (on my Mac) or Lucida Console.

And for anyone else who doesn't have VS2005 installed but wants to see how Consolas looks:

I think it'll be more present on the pre,code,kbd etc. tags than as a normal body font

Hm... I think I prefer 8pt Courier New, as the equivalent size is 9pt Consolas, which doesn't look as nice. Seems more closer together and harder to read. It is nice at 10 or 12pt but then you get less on a screen (I use full screen at 1600x1200)...

Juan, I agree. I think at 10pt it's a bit too small, and at 11pt a bit too large.

Leszek, yes, I think it'll be more appropriate for code samples and such.

I gotta say I like my font size small and I think ProFont does a much better job at lower font sizes. Maybe it's my junk old crts that I use at work... I'l try it out on the laptop when I get home, but so far I'm sticking with the ProFont.

ProFont definitely looks sweet.

I'm using Anonymous with my installation of VS2003. Will be a while before we are moving to VS2005 here, so I'll have to wait to se how they compare.
