Vine Type: A Lightweight Blog Engine

On a regular basis I receive emails from people asking what blogging engine I run and whether I can share the code. As I mention in the About section, my “engine” is home-grown. For a number of reasons I can’t share the code but… there’s a nice little .NET blogging engine called Vine Type.

Vine Type has a tiny footprint, is easy to install and needs no database. Like most blogging engines of today, it manages content in files. You can see a sample installation at http://vinetype.org. Although small, Vine Type has a nice feature set, among which is XHTML compliancy.

Big props to Carl Camera, the guy behind Vine Type, for the effort! If you’re shoping around for something to power your blog or community site, take Vine Type for a test drive and give Carl feedback.

Thanks Milan! Vine Type, I think, will appeal to folks who want to prodcuce standards-compliant websites on IIS. It relies on an XML template to generate the XHTML, a configuration file to generate any required text (in any language) and CSS to style the pages. With this setup, Vine Type can take on just about any look for any language. I'm working on launching a community site for Vine Type so folks can share their experiences, expertise, and provide feedback.

Thank you for information. I`m going to try Vine type. I have a question does it supports trackbacks?

I'm not sure. You'll need to ask Carl.
