FolderShare Corrupts Outlook Mail

I had a bizarre experience with FolderShare the other day. I’ve been using their desktop client since October (back in November Microsoft acquired them) which had occasional hiccups. In particular, it corrupted my Omea Reader files several times.

If you use FolderShare for free, it allows you to sync up two folders. If you can ignore the clumsy interface and set up everything once, it’s all good. After all, you can’t beat the price of free.

One of these folders was my Outlook mail file. The other day I came to work and realized that FolderShare incorrectly sync’ed it up with my home computer and I lost two days worth of emails, some of which were important. I can live with corrupted RSS feeds, but not with lost emails.

To those of you, FolderShare users, this is a warning. I’m going to wait until Microsoft actually does some QA on it and turns it into a safe tool with a nice interface.

Actually the free version (since MS acquired them) allows you to sync up to ten folders on a single machine with up to 10k files per folder.

I've been using them to share jpg files across multiple machines (around 35k files) and haven't had any issues. I'll keep away from pst files though....

Yikes, that sucks. They have a quasi warning about PST files: https://www.foldershare.com/info/faq/UsingFolderShare.php.

I had a little trouble in that they sync deletes. I DELETED the contens of a whole folder from the command line (not the folder, the CONTENTS) and the delete started spreading throughout my other connected machines. It was a bad time.
